On Veresaya Street in Rivne, unknown persons set fire to two new plastic containers for collecting household waste.
The fire was quickly extinguished by rescuers from the State Emergency Service, but the containers were completely destroyed.
Unfortunately, this is not the first case of vandalism at this location. Back in March of this year, a waste collection container was also burned here. Such incidents cause significant damage to the community and require additional costs for the restoration of municipal property.
The problem is becoming systemic. Over the past year and the first half of this year alone, more than two dozen garbage containers burned down in Rivne as a result of arson. The cost of one new container is about 10 thousand hryvnias, not including the costs of its installation, replacement, and removal of damaged structures.
The 1728th Civil Protection Agency notes that each case of damage to municipal property is documented. The company’s lawyer is filing a complaint with law enforcement agencies, and thanks to the city’s video surveillance system, it has already been possible to identify some of the individuals involved in such offenses.
Municipal employees urge residents to be responsible and follow the rules for using containers. Do not throw unextinguished cigarette butts or other sources of ignition into them, and in case of arson or intentional damage to municipal property, report it to the relevant services or law enforcement agencies.
Let’s take care of community property together, because the funds spent on replacing destroyed containers could be directed to improving landscaping and developing city infrastructure.
